Cerebral Palsy

Financial Assistance

There are several sources of financial assistance available for individuals with cerebral palsy and their families.

If you or a loved one have cerebral palsy and it can be determined that the cause was preventable (for example, a head injury sustained in an automobile accident), you may be eligible for financial compensation under the law from the responsible party.

For those who cannot afford the medical needs of their child with CP, organizations exist to provide financial assistance and other needs (such as adaptable toys or living-assistance devices). You can find more about these organizations by visiting them on our CP resources page.

In addition, federal financial support is usually available for individuals with cerebral palsy under certain programs-usually the Social Security disability insurance program or the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.

Discrimination in the workplace against those with cerebral palsy is prohibited under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Legal options and possible financial compensation are available to those who have suffered discrimination due to their disability.
